This safari offers a great opportunity to explore off the beaten track wilderness areas and to view Africa’s iconic animals – including Rhinos, Elephants, Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards and Giraffes – away from the tourist crowds, staying in a small eco friendly lodge and tented camp.  

Safari Itinerary & Prices

Day One Fly from Wilson Airport on the 08:30hrs flight to Meru, arriving at approximately 09:25hrs. You will be met at the airstrip and transferred to Rhino River Camp, situated in 80 acres of privately owned wilderness right on the edge of the Meru National Park. Enjoy lunch and afternoon tea in camp and then head off on a game drive with your driver-guide in the camp’s 4×4 safari vehicle. Return to Rhino River Camp for dinner and overnight.  

Day Two Awake to the noisy calls of the bush. Enjoy a full day with game drives and walking activities from camp. Stop for a Sundowner at a scenic viewpoint and later return to camp for dinner. Overnight Rhino River Camp.  

Day Three After an early breakfast, take a visit to the burial site of Elsa the Lioness, the inspiration for the book and film “Born Free”. Take a rest after lunch and then go out on an afternoon game drive to further explore the Meru with a sundowner and night game drive on the return to Camp. Dinner and overnight.  

Day Four Early breakfast, before you depart and transfer to the airstrip for the 11:25hrs flight to Nairobi arriving at 12:40hrs. Connect ono the 13:45hrs flight to to the Masai Mara, arriving at 14:45hrs. You will be met at the airstrip by your Driver Guide and transfer to Porini Mara Camp, with a game drive enroute. Settle into your tent before afternoon tea and head out on a game drive with a sundowner at a scenic spot followed by a night game drive with spotlights to search for nocturnal animals, including the elusive leopards which are resident in Ol Kinyei Conservancy, before heading back to camp for dinner. Overnight at Porni Mara Camp.  

Day Five A full day spent on a game drive in the famous Maasai Mara Reserve with a picnic lunch in the park and then return to Porini Mara Camp in the late afternoon. Sundowner and night game drive as you return to Camp for dinner. Overnight Porini Mara Camp.  

Day Six A full day to explore the Ol Kinyei Conservancy on the lookout for elephants, buffalo, giraffe, plains game and the big cats. Wake up at dawn and enjoy an early game drive in the conservancy, returning to camp for a late breakfast followed by an escorted nature walk and then lunch. In the afternoon enjoy another game drive in the Ol Kinyei Conservancy with a night drive as you head back to camp driving in the dark with a spotlight for the chance to see the nocturnal animals. Dinner and overnight at Porini Mara Camp.  

Day Seven Early morning game drive in the conservancy returning for breakfast. Mid- morning transfer to the airstrip for the 11:00hrs flight back to Nairobi Wilson airport (arriving 12:20hrs).  

We can arrange Nairobi transfers as well an overnight stay in Nairobi (at a supplement) at the start or end of your safari depending on your international flight times.  

In high season, it is possible to fly directly from Meru to the Masai Mara - please ask for costs & availability.
